Description
King of the Castle by Maggie Terlecki
When I was a kid, we used to play and have an expression that was "I'm the king of the castle and you're the dirty rascal". I don't know why but I did this image and that phrase just kept popping up in my head, so I used it.
The teacups are from my mom. I only use them for photography. They are beautiful, but a bit too fancy pancy for me. Give me a huge mug of very good coffee and I'm a happy girl! To be honest, I don't ever remember my mom drinking from them even though she was a tea drinker, but I think she bought them because they were pretty. That would have been her style. All I know is that whenever I use them, I think of her and tell everyone they were hers and that keeps her memory alive. I was only 25 when she passed and she a mere 58. so many things I would ask her about today, that I'm curious about, questions that make me wonder more about who she was besides being my mom. I do know that she would love that I use them all the time.
The pile is high and a little crooked, but a little Wabi-sabi doesn't hurt anyone! :-D

Beautiful, Maggie. I have a similar story and my mother's very fancy china which is wrapped carefully in paper and stored in boxes. I'll have to plot a photo shoot!
Maggie Terlecki replied:
Thank you so much, Nancy. I have very few things from my mom and these are precious to me. I'm sure you feel the same way about your mom's china. I actually have a woman who contacted me that her mother-in-law is going to be moving to an assisted facility and that she has various teacups and saucers and she asked if I'd like them as she knows that I take photo with them. I was so pleased. A friend of theirs will be visiting my town this month and will bring them. As for your plotting a photo shoot with your mom's china, please let me know so I don't miss out! :-) Maggie
